Chicago Downtown Hotels

Chicago Loop or simply The Loop is the traditional commercial core of Chicago. Both the government of Chicago and that of Cook County are based here and the place also hosts the theater district. The Loop has grown to be identified with a distinctive business community bordered by Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, and Roosevelt Road. The first structure to be built with financial help from the US is Fort Dearborn which was constructed in 1803 and can now be seen on the Chicago River Banks.

An entire host of cultural institutions have been created in the area, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Cultural Center, Grant Park, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or the Lyric Opera. These attractions and many others merge smoothly into the strikingly urban architecture which remains a landmark of this place. The first skyscraper, the building of Home Insurance, was raised here. Willis Tower still ranks as the tallest in the country.

Modern sculpture is a leading trait of the Loop cityscape, featuring works by Picasso, Moore, Chagall or Joan Miro among others. The urban stylistics is counterbalanced by wide green areas of which Grant Park and the more recent Millennium Park are to be mentioned.

Further reference should be made to the numerous shopping areas-Sears, Marshall Field and Company, Magnificent Mile or the Loop Retail Historic District. There are several streets with great shopping opportunities, of which State Street is a relevant example.

Places to Sleep in Chicago

Some people want to live in luxury when they come to Chicago. They desire thick, warm towels; room service at all hours; a gourmet restaurant on premises; and a concierge to meet their every need. Others prefer to economize; they’re satisfied with a clean room and a comfortable bed. “There’s so much to do in Chicago, we won’t be spending much time in the hotel anyway” they say.

You can be at either extreme – or somewhere in between – and Chicago is certain to meet your needs. That’s because the Chicago area has nearly 700 hotels with more than 100,000 rooms. They offer excellent service, comfort and value at every price point. Chicago hosts more than 45 million visitors a year, so our hospitality knows what it’s doing.

In downtown Chicago — with its concentration of superb restaurants, shopping and cultural attractions – you can choose from more than 30,000 rooms in hotels ranging from the five-star luxury variety hotels, to small, trendy boutique properties to student-friendly hostels. Twenty additional hotels with 4,500 rooms will be under development over the next ten years. Visitors looking to stay in a B&B (bed and breakfast) will find many options available to them all over the city.

Green Accommodations

Striving to be green from sun up to sun down, Chicago leads the nation with the greatest number of hotels with the Green Seal certification, an acknowledgement of their commitment to incorporate environmentally-friendly practices into their day-to-day operations.

Continuing to set the standard in “green hospitality venues”, Chicago presently has 14 Green Seal Certified hotels: five at the silver level—Hotel Allegro, Hotel Burnham, Hotel Monaco, InterContinental Chicago and The Talbott Hotel and nine at the bronze level—Essex Inn, Four Seasons, Hilton Chicago, The Ritz-Carlton-Chicago, Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Tower, The Silversmith Hotel & Suites, The Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, The Westin Michigan Avenue and The Fairmont Chicago.

And, in response to the Mayor’s Green Hotel Initiative challenge, many additional Chicago hotels are sprucing up for similar “certification” status. In the hospitality arena, Chicago’s conscientiously-minded hotel properties are setting the nation’s standard in green hospitality.
